Lewes Badminton Club Constitution

Club name and affiliation

The club will be called LEWES BADMINTON CLUB and will be affiliated to BADMINTON England.

Aims and Objectives

The aims and objectives of the club will be to:

Play and promote badminton in the local community

Offer badminton coaching and competition opportunities to all members

Provide duty of care and protection to all club members

To provide all its services in a way that is fair to everyone

To ensure that all present and future members are treated equitably

 

Membership

 

Membership shall consist of:

Adult members

Junior/ Student members

Honorary Members

The Committee shall determine total membership for anyone season, and all applications for membership to be considered by the Committee

All members shall abide by the constitution and codes of conduct adopted by the club

Fees will be set and reviewed annually by the Committee and approved at the Annual General Meeting

Lewes Junior Badminton Club is a subsidiary of Lewes Badminton Club and as such has adopted and agreed to abide by all the Club's policies and procedures

 

Subscriptions

 

The Annual Subscription to the Badminton Club shall be decided at the Annual General Meeting

The Committee have the power to offer Honorary Life Membership, in recognition of a member's exceptional service to the club

 

Running of the Club

 

The Club shall be managed by a Committee of six members, this number to include the Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Match Secretary, Coach and Welfare Officer

The committee shall have the power to co-opt and to fill casual vacancies before the Annual General Meeting

An attendance of four members shall form a quorum

The Committee will be responsible for adopting new policy, codes of practice and rules that affect the organisation of the club

All complaints regarding the behaviour of members should be presented and submitted in writing to the Secretary. The Committee will be responsible for disciplinary hearings of members who infringe the club rules/regulations/constitution. The Committee will be responsible for taking any action of suspension or discipline following such hearings which will be conducted in accordance with the Badminton England Disciplinary Regulations

 

Club Policies

 

The club adopts the following policies and Codes of Conduct (Appendix 1)

Badminton England Equality and Diversity Policy

Badminton England Safeguarding & Protecting Young People in Badminton policy

Badminton England Codes of conduct for players, coaches, volunteers, officials and parents

 

Finance and Accounts

 

All club monies will be banked in an account held in the name of the club

The accounts will be kept by the Treasurer and audited annually

The financial year of the club will end on 30th April

Any payments made against club funds will be approved by at least two authorised signatories

Should Lewes Badminton Club no longer be viable and the accounts need to be wound up then any residual funds, after all creditors have been satisfied, shall be donated to Sussex County Badminton Association

 

Team selection

 

The Teams Selection Sub Committee shall consist of the Club Match Secretary, Club Coach who is in a position to assess the progress of members of the junior section and the casual player sessions, plus three club members to be elected at the Annual General Meeting. The selection sub committee will appoint a team captain for each team. It will be their responsibility to check player's availability. The team captain will also be responsible for submitting match results to the appropriate league secretary

A levy to be decided at the Annual General Meeting shall be paid by all members playing in home and away matches, payment to be managed by Team Captains

Only members of Lewes Badminton Club shall play in League fixtures

 

Safeguarding

 

The Lewes Badminton Club agrees to adopt the BADMINTON England Young People and Safeguarding Adults Policies and Implementation Procedures. All individual members are deemed to have assented to the BADMINTON England Young People and Safeguarding Adults Policies and Code of Ethics and Behaviour and as such recognise and adhere to the principles and responsibilities embodied in these documents

 

All concerns, allegations or reports of poor practice/abuse relating to the welfare of children and young people will be recorded and responded to swiftly and appropriately in accordance with the club’s child protection policy and procedures. The Club Welfare Officer is the lead contact for all members in the event of any child protection concerns

 

Annual General Meeting

 

The Annual General Meeting will be held during the summer recess. At least fourteen days notice will be given to members.

 

The Agenda will include:

 

A report from the committee members

 

A Treasurer's report and the year's Accounts

 

Resignation of the current committee

 

Election of the committee for the coming year

 

All members of the senior club have the right to vote at the AGM

 

Members have the right to call for an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM). It shall be held at the request of at least 25% of members. Notice for an EGM will be the same as for an AGM

 

A quorum for both meetings shall be one third of the senior membership

 

Constitution Changes

 

This Constitution can be changed only by majority vote at an Annual General Meeting. All proposals for changes to the constitution should be received by the Secretary in writing by 30th April

 

A resolution to dissolve the club can only be passed at an Annual General Meeting or Extraordinary General Meeting through a majority vote of the membership

 

Declaration

 

Lewes Badminton Club hereby adopts and accepts this constitution as a current operating guide regulating the action of members
